At Lemon Myrtle Fragrances, we try to be as all-natural as possible with our products. From our Lemon Myrtle Lip Balm to our Lemon Myrtle Body Lotion, we promise that our products will always be plant-derived and free from the bad stuff. Better for you, and better for the planet.
Many personal care products contain synthetic chemicals, which consumers and researchers are finding more and more troublesome to our skin. In this pledge, we set out the harsh additives you'll never find in our products.
We pledge to always be free from:
Animal Testing
Whether they're two legged or four, no animal deserves to be used as an experiment. Testing products on animals has a proven track record of coinciding with animal cruelty, and also to be unnecessary for many products on the market.
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
A foaming agent used in many care and cleaning products, its safety study found that it was an irritant. It is well documented to strip natural oils from the skin, which can exacerbate skin conditions like dryness, eczema, and allergic reactions. It can also be irritating to the eyes. In toothpaste, it can cause cracking of the lips and corners of the mouth.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES)
An adulterated version of SLS which is a more gentle alternative, but it is still drying, so it can cause skin irritation when used regularly, especially for those with sensitive skin.
Petrochemicals
This is a wide category of mostly very harmful substances derived from petroleum, but a few are permitted to be ingredients for use in personal care products. These include paraffin wax, mineral oil, benzene and butanol. They're commonly used to keep skin hydrated, but the barrier they leave on the skin can cause more problems in the long run, clogging pores and encouraging blackheads and acne.
Parabens
These are cheap antimicrobial chemical preservatives often found in many personal care products. Parabens are known to cause irritation on the skin and often lead to allergic reactions.
DEET (chemical name, N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide)
This is a controversial and powerful chemical designed to mask our natural scent, making it harder for biting insects to detect humans. Because of the strength of the active ingredient, it is a common allergen and people often experience skin irritation, rashes, redness and swelling.
Aluminium
Not just for soft drink cans! Typically found in antiperspirants to help reduce sweat, aluminium has been found to be harmful and is a known allergen. There is a growing pile of research that suggests aluminium-free deodorants are better for you.
Artificial colours or fragrances
Artificial colours and fragrances are often 'derived from petrochemicals' and so they cause the same issues as petrochemicals – including headaches, nausea and migraines. When nature has so much to offer in terms of vibrant colours and beautiful fragrance, why include them at all?
So that's our pledge. No matter what product you are looking for, you can rest assured that our natural products are cruelty free, paraben-free, petrochemical-free and so much more.
